Yes, the house now ships its pashmina ghutras to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman, as well as across the UAE. Orders leave the Dubai studio within one business day of payment, and the delivery window across the wider Gulf is three to five business days after dispatch. If you are weighing a first piece from abroad, our buying primer sets out what to look for before you order.
This note explains what happens between your order and your door, what is and is not included in the cost of getting a piece to you, and how to choose well when you cannot hold the cloth in your hands first.
Where the house delivers
Soznikar is a Dubai house, and delivery within the UAE remains the simplest route. Across the rest of the Gulf, the same pieces now travel to Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman. The ghutra that reaches Riyadh or Doha is the same piece that would be handed to a client at the studio. Nothing is held back for the local market, and nothing is substituted for the export order.
Each piece is one of one. It is hand-loomed in Kashmir on a 19th-century pit loom from Kashmiri pashmina of 12-14 micron, finished with sozni embroidery in silk thread, and has a fine hairline edge. At 140 x 140 cm and 150 g it is a light parcel, which is one reason the cloth travels so well.
From payment to dispatch
Orders are dispatched within one business day of payment. In that day the studio checks the piece, folds it flat in tissue paper, ties it with a cotton ribbon, and places it in an unbranded protective outer carton. The packaging is deliberately plain. The carton exists to protect the cloth in transit and to keep the parcel discreet at the door.
Once the parcel is with the courier, you receive tracking details. Keep them to hand, because a parcel for a Gulf address passes through customs at the destination, and the courier may contact you if they need anything to release it.
Delivery times across the Gulf
Delivery within the UAE takes one to two business days after dispatch. Across the wider Gulf (Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman), it takes three to five business days after dispatch.
Business days matter here. A parcel dispatched on a Thursday afternoon will not move over the weekend, and public holidays at the destination add time that no courier can remove. If you need a piece for a particular date, such as a family gathering or a wedding, order with a comfortable margin and do not plan around the shortest estimate. The full terms are set out in the shipping policy.
Addresses within 50 km of the Dubai studio can choose free local delivery at checkout. This applies to the area around the studio only, and it does not extend to other emirates or to the wider Gulf.
Customs duties and import taxes
For the Gulf, customs duties and import taxes are not included in the order. They depend on the destination country and on the courier handling the parcel, and the house cannot set them or predict them for you. You may be asked to settle any charge when the parcel is cleared, or the courier may collect it at the door.
The sensible approach is simple. Before you order, ask a relative or a local customs agent how fine textiles are treated at your border, and allow for that in your decision. This is an ordinary part of buying from abroad, and it is better understood in advance than discovered at the door.
Choosing a first piece from abroad
Buying cloth you cannot touch asks for a little more care. A few habits help.
- Start with the ground colour. Cream, ivory and soft neutrals sit easily over a white thobe and over the darker thobes of winter. Read the product page closely, because it states the ground and the border exactly.
- Read the border as the character of the piece. Signature ghutras carry sozni border work. Imperial ghutras add a large corner motif and a chevron border. You can browse both on the Signature collection and the Imperial collection.
- Remember that each piece is one of one. If a piece on the page is the one you want, it is the only one. There is no second to wait for.
- Choose for your climate. A fine pashmina ghutra at 150 g is comfortable in cool rooms, in winter evenings and in air-conditioned majlis. For the summer months, the house suggests the pieces with the lightest borders.
Readers in Riyadh may also find the guide for the Saudi buyer useful, since it covers how the cloth sits in that city's climate and dress customs.
What to prepare before you order
A little preparation makes the first order from abroad calm. Confirm the delivery address in full, including the building name, the area and a telephone number that will be answered, because couriers in the Gulf rely on a reachable number more than on a street name. Choose an address where someone will be present on the day, since a fine textile is better received by hand than left at a gate.
Decide in advance who will deal with the courier if customs asks a question. In a household with several adults, it helps to name one person. If the piece is a gift for someone else, give the courier the recipient's number as well as your own, and tell the recipient to expect a parcel from the Dubai studio.
Finally, keep the outer carton and the tissue until you are certain the piece is right for you. A return for a change of mind requires the original packaging, and the carton is the simplest way to send the cloth back in good order.
Returns from outside the UAE
You have 14 days to return an unworn piece in its original packaging. For Gulf change-of-mind returns, the buyer pays the return shipping. This is stated plainly so that you can weigh it before you order and not afterwards.
A piece that arrives damaged, or that is not as described, is covered from every country. In that case the house will put it right, and you should contact the studio promptly with photographs. The refund policy gives the full terms.
Made-to-order pieces follow a different course. They take six to nine months from order confirmation to arrival, there is a 48-hour cancellation window, and after that the sale is final. If you are buying from abroad for the first time, a piece already in the studio is the easier first step.
Receiving and keeping the piece
On arrival, open the carton with care and lift the tissue gently away from the cloth. Take the ghutra out, and let it rest unfolded for a few hours before you wear it, since a long journey leaves faint creases that settle by themselves.
Care is the same wherever you live. Dry clean only. Store the piece folded flat, away from direct light, and never fold it along the embroidery lines. Home washing is never advised. A ghutra kept this way will last for decades, and it is easier to keep well when you start well.
Questions buyers ask
Is the cloth the same as the one sold in the UAE?
Yes. The Gulf receives the same ghutras as the UAE, in the same Kashmiri pashmina, loomed and finished the same way.
Will I pay customs charges?
You may. Customs duties and import taxes are not included for Gulf orders, and they depend on the destination and the courier.
How long until it reaches me in Kuwait or Qatar?
Allow three to five business days after dispatch, and dispatch itself happens within one business day of payment.
Can I return it if I change my mind?
Yes, within 14 days if the piece is unworn and in its original packaging. For Gulf returns of this kind, you pay the return shipping.
When you are ready to look at the cloth itself, the Signature collection is the place to begin, and the Imperial collection follows for those who want a larger corner motif. The studio is in Dubai, and the pieces now travel across the Gulf to meet you.
